Learning Outcomes
* Identify the stages of an interview and appropriate communication skills associated with each stage, including questioning, paraphrasing, summarizing, disclosure, concreteness.
*Demonstrate competence conducting an interview including clarifying expectations, dealing effectively with conflict, establishing rapport, maintaining behavior that is congruent with expressed values, and critically thinking for analysis, problem-solving, decision making, and predicting outcomes.
*Adapt interview skills for diverse populations.
* Identify, describe, and assess the standards of confidentiality and ethical practice for interviewing.
*Compare and contrast interview skills with crisis interview skills.

Assignments
Video #1
Submit a video of a role-played interview session with a "client" in a Human Service setting which is no more than 15 minutes long. Then submit a self-evaluation of your interviewing skills as demonstrated on the video, including both skills you have and skills you would like to develop.
Research of Interviewing/Counseling Theory
Part A - Submit a research paper on one of the seven models that will provide you a foundation for interviewing practices utilized in Human Service interviewing.
Part B - Each student will be assigned to a particular group in which they will facilitate a panel discussion so all students can benefit from the shared information.
Video #2
Submit a video of a role-played interview session with a "client" in a Human Service setting which is no more than 25 minutes long. Then submit a self-evaluation of your interviewing skills and assess your level of mastery.
Peer Review of Video #2
Using the Video Analysis framework, analyze a peer's video.
Weekly Blackboard Posting
Each week post a 350 word minimum essay of the reading and in relation to an observed interview in person, online, from other media sources.

Skill building requires the repetition of face to face, in class, and written exercises.

Standards are met in more than one course, but specifications may be met in only one course. Below are the specifications that have been designated for inclusion in this course.
